'Unless pin-up parents rally round, we will see the return of dread diseases'
- comment - The Observer via The Guardian, UK - "Meet 'John' and 'Jane', pin-up
parents. They insist on organic food for their toddler, bring him to the best
baby group in town, buy him only all-cotton outfits from Baby Gap and won't let
him watch more than three hours of television a week...Despite this perfect
parenting, however, John and Jane put their child's health at risk every day.
They are among the 5 per cent of British parents who have opted out of
vaccinating their child."
Comment: This
argument rests on assuming that the epidemic of autism, the rise in chronic
disease (including cancer, asthma, diabetes), and other concerns raised by
so-called "pin-up parents" could have nothing to do with vaccination and have
been scientifically settled. But condescension does not truth make.
And buying the propaganda generated by the vaccine manufacturers as to the
safety of their product does not prevent harm from being done. To the
contrary, if these parents are right, it merely serves to perpetuate and
compound the damage.

Vaccinations: Irrational fear isn't confined to Third World - editorial -
The Dallas Morning News - "Polio is back in northern
Nigeria, thanks to a conspiracy theory spread by some Muslim clerics. They're
telling their people that a United Nations vaccine program is part of a Western
plot to render their women infertile. African children will be left crippled
because of such barbaric nonsense, and a dread disease that could have been
eradicated by scientists will live to maim countless others...But before we
start feeling too superior to the superstitious Nigerians, let's consider how
vulnerable our own irrational fears of vaccines leave our population to
potentially calamitous outbreaks of disease."
Comment: It's only an irrational fear if you
dismiss or ignore the evidence against vaccines.

►March 2004 - You Should
Worry About Vaccine Safety - Coastal Post Online - "But industry has the
trump card. Marin County receives enough monies from the vaccination program
that its officials wish only to 'Hear No Evil.'..Eventually the tide must turn.
But at what cost? Across how many more coffins containing infant and toddler
bodies must the shadow of vaccination fall?"
Comment: This is
the mantra, but it doesn't make it true. Where are the long-term studies
comparing the vaccinated to the never vaccinated? Only when they are done
will we have any idea what the true risks of the diseases are compared to the
vaccines.

Parents 'don't
trust' vaccine - Parents choose not to immunise their children because they
distrust official pro-vaccine information, according to new research. - The
Dominion Post via www.stuff.co.nz - "They
say the parents were highly educated and had collected information about
immunisation from a wide range of sources before making their decisions...Most
were worried about possible side effects from immunisation. Just under 60 per
cent of parents thought immunisations were given too early and would weaken,
rather than strengthen, their children's immune systems. They believed children
would develop better immunity if they caught diseases naturally."

►February 12, 2004 - Vaccine Update February 2004
- www.detnow.com - "It
would be irresponsible to leave children at risk of diseases that can kill, and
not every vaccine that can provide protection is laced with the toxic substance
that so many have questioned, but no matter what you may hear from the people
you depend upon to protect your health, the safety of some vaccines is still
questionable...'Everybody wants vaccines to be as safe as they possibly can,'
U-M Chief of Pediatrics Dr. Gary Freed, M.D. has said, but medical experts at
the respected University of Michigan are among those who continue to downplay
any real concerns. Following our first reports about the issue on Action News
last Fall, the university website countered our broadcasts with what it said was
'the truth about vaccines,' labeling the concerns we reported as mere 'rumor and
speculations,' claiming its professional staff is trained to handle such
concerns, despite the fact they gave our producer what they later admitted was
patently inaccurate information to her questions on the phone. Regardless of
which shot is given, one nurse wrongly informed the producer, there will not be
mercury in the shot...Even today, U-Ms website wrongly claims 'no harmful
effects have been reported' from the mercury in vaccines except for minor
redness and swelling where needles have been injected."

this controversy. As we have shown, some of the most respected health care
professionals have decided there is no problem with any vaccines, even though
theyve never read studies which strongly suggest there is."

or managerial way. I don't understand why chiropractors feel they should be
offering advice on this.'"

parents increasingly question vaccine wisdom
- Reuters via www.signonsandiego.com
- "For instance, measles makes as many as 40
million people around the world sick every year and kills 745,000, according to
the World Health Organization..'If vaccinations were stopped, each year about
2.7 million measles deaths worldwide could be expected,' the CDC says."

Litigation
Could Make Vaccines Extinct - Congress must act--it has the legislative
model in hand (requires registration) - The Scientist - "Vaccines have
eradicated some killer diseases and protected against others. But they face
eradication themselves--by litigation. As the United States rushes to defend
itself against bioterrorism by developing vaccines against biological agents,
Congress must pass legislation to ensure that vaccines themselves do not become
extinct...All vaccines carry risks, including side effects such as encephalitis.
For example, severe allergic reactions, such as breathing problems and shock,
can occur in less than one in a million doses of diphtheria, tetanus and
pertussis vaccine.1"
Comment: Why is it almost always assumed there is
no good reason for these lawsuits? Perhaps there is ample reason to be
concerned about vaccines. For instance, perhaps the incidence of vaccine adverse
reactions is far higher than what is admitted to by the "experts". For
more on the incidence of vaccine-associated adverse reactions go to
Scandals:
Avoidance Of Vaccine Truth But Not Consequences - Are We "Knee Deep in the Big
Muddy"?
And what of the statistical methods to analyze the
data? One commonly used tactic, using doses, as in the above example,
skews the results whenever multi-dose vaccines are used. For instance, in
the above example cited in The Scientist, given that children receive 4-5
DOSES of DPT vaccine, severe allergic reactions would then be thought to occur
in at least one in 200,000 to 250,000 CHILDREN. If you factor in
under-reporting, thought by even the FDA and at least
one vaccine manufacturing company to be considerable, the numbers re: severe
allergic reactions alone are not so reassuring and could be as frequent as
100/200,000 or 1 in 2,000 CHILDREN. For more on this go to
Scandals: Contemporary Legends - How To Lie With Statistics I
Comment: With the benefits of vaccines
overstated, and the risks either ignored or dismissed, it is a myth that we know

their risks. For an

Hyping Vaccines: An Investigation - Chickenpox, Lyme, Rotavirus, And A
Highly Revealing Analysis Of Flu Statistics - by
RFD Columnist, Dr. F. Edward Yazbak in the
Online Vaccines
Conference at www.redflagsdaily.com
- "Years ago, the description of diseases used to be accurate. Smallpox
was a very dreaded, serious, and often fatal illness. Certainly, no parent
wished smallpox on his children. Chickenpox on the other hand was a relatively
benign illness: a low-grade fever, an itchy rash and a week out of school. Like
all childhood illnesses, it was worse in adults and parents were actually hoping
that their children could catch chickenpox and be finished with it for the
future."
Comment: As seems to be the norm, the long-term
consequences of vaccination are being compared to the mere incidence of disease.
Except in those cases where there are long term consequences of disease, there
may be little reason to avoid a disease, and some considerable reason to
experience it. (For more on this, see, for
instance,
Scandals:
Prescription
For Disaster - Is Vaccine Policy A "House of Cards"?)
Either the incidence of vaccination should be
compared to the incidence of disease, in which case the incidence of vaccination
might win out, but would, of course, be meaningless; or the long-term
consequences of vaccination needs to be compared to the long-term consequences
of disease. About that we know little since we have never compared the two
in any meaningful way (see, for instance, comments re:
No solid evidence links vaccines, autism below).

School vaccination system could use shot in the arm - Despite state law, districts struggle to
protect students - Lowell Sun Online - "In a perfect world, all students
would enter the classroom fully vaccinated. State law requires nothing
less...But in the real world of overburdened, underfunded schools, things aren't
so simple. The result: Many students enter the classroom without protection from
serious illnesses."
Comment: In a perfect world, the "experts" and
those who believe in them would not act as if they know what is best for
everyone. They would also not try and enforce their narrow, human,
imperfect view.
►January 3, 2004 -
Vaccinate your child - National Post
via www.canada.com - "As a general rule,
parents know better than any one else how best to look after their children.
That said, it seems more and more parents are making the wrong choice when it
comes to vaccinating their offspring against potentially deadly diseases...Concerned
than ever about the safety of vaccines, with many citing unfounded worries that
the preventive shots are 'unnatural' and will cause everything from brain damage
to multiple sclerosis."
Comment: Perhaps these fears are unfounded, but it
is more likely they are not. For instance, a recent study,
Risk factors of multiple sclerosis: a case-control study,
found a highly significant relationship between measles vaccination and MS.
And there has always been considerable evidence of brain damage, among the most
noteworthy being the report co-authored by the "father
of pediatric neurology",
Dr. John Menkes,
entitled
Workshop on neurologic complications of pertussis and pertussis vaccination.
Among the findings, it was reported that "Although the majority of seizures
following pertussis vaccination are associated with fever, it was the consensus
of the neurologists attending the workshop, that these do not represent febrile
convulsions, but are non-benign convulsions (my emphasis)." The
Institute of Medicine, in its safety review of vaccines,
found, among
other things, "that
the evidence is consistent with a causal relation between DPT vaccine and acute
encephalopathy and shock and 'unusual shock-like state'..." While it is unknown
exactly how many actual vaccine-associated adverse reactions would be identified
were they assiduously followed, cavalierly dismissing the
over
100,000 of them, as if they must all be meaningless, is simply absurd.
Some idea of their full extent and import can be gleaned from examination of
VAERS reports, as long as
estimates
of under-reporting, ranging from 90-99%, are factored in. For instance,
there were
269
reports of vaccine-associated encephalopathy, probably representing between
2,690 and 26,900 cases. There were another
371 reports (overlap
unknown) of encephalitis, representing a possible additional 3,710 to 37,100
cases. If one takes into consideration the time between administration of
vaccine and reports of infant death, and the extremely high percentage that
appear to be occurring even
within one day
of vaccination, it should be clear that neither jubilation nor relief about the
benign nature of vaccination is warranted. If reports of vaccine reactions
are taken seriously, as they should be, it becomes apparent that the only thing
that is truly unfounded is the notion that fears about vaccines are "unfounded".

Needles and damage done - To vaccinate or not to vaccinate: Missoulas
question - Missoula Independent - "So are these parents sensibleor just
selfish? It can be unclear whether newborns need this alphabet soup of shots or

which side of the immunization fence one resides on, all sides agree that the
decision is motivated by parents concern for their very young children."

Advocate for
vaccines, but not for candidates - How should you counsel
parents opposed to childhood vaccinations? -
www.ama-assn.org - "In fact, when rates of
coverage for certain diseases reach a certain high level, a resistance of the
community to disease attack might occur because a large portion of the
population is immune. This is what is known as herd immunity and allows
for limited numbers of individuals to avoid vaccination, yet take advantage of
vaccine protection...But parent refusal of vaccination without personal
exemption status poses serious moral and legal problems that put public health
at risk.
